Engine dashboard thermostat indicating hotter than normal (over the 50% mark), faint smell (musty burning smell), and water in the gasket is boiling. Petrol station attendants helped me bring the heat down by re-filling water and letting hot air escape from the pipe that connects to the gasket, and I was able to drive home, but this is probably a temporary solution.
