From what I've been told the issue is most likely the accelerator cable. When I'm in idle my revs are around 3 - 4k rpms and when I push down on the clutch while changing gears the revs shoot up.
The car is actually a Mazda Astina, but it was similar to the Etude and option for Astina doesn't exist on the site.
