"I have just had a minor service plus brake replacement, back and front, but need to know about/fix the following When having my Brakes replaced at a drive in place. They advised me that there is a slight oiliness around the bottom of the sump, and that they thought the Sump gasket needed replacing. The leak is not major, as only I need to put a pint in, every 3-4 months, however. I want to keep this car until she rests on the dump one day, so want to keep her in tip top shape. The only Ssanyong service centre on Voortrekker Street in Cape Town, is trying to tell me there is no gasket, "it is metal on metal"??? Does anyone perhaps know, and can they check this out for me please? The belt that runs in front of the radiator is squeaking, and needs replacement. I read up that these cars have an OHC Cam system, and cannot figure out, whether the car has a Cam belt or not, from Wikipedia (talks about push rods, whatever that is). If it indeed does have one, I need to check if it needs replacing, and if so, replace, as I do not want the expense of getting bent valves fixed. A washer on one of the injectors has come off, and I need it to be replaced. Lastly, the globe plugs were replace about a year ago, and I am not sure if they need replacing again. Care needs to be exercised here, as the Korando is known to have the plugs break in the block, unless done with a special type of spanner, then it is a battle to get them out. Even the Ssangyong authorized service centre, does not want to take this on and referred me to Gough & Cooper in Brackenfell, who want close to 6K to change 5 globe plugs (WTF). I purchased my plugs myself at Auto Trader last time, and they came to only R 900, so they are riding on the fact that they are the only people who can do it in Cape Town, and trying to rip us off with 5K labour... not on my watch!!! Perhaps other mechanics ca see this fact as an opportunity, to get the spanner and become competition, to them??? Whoever can give an honest assessment, and serve me at the right price, and I do not mind paying for quality and especially honesty... it will be very appreciated, and you will have a keeper of a customer, if I am happy. My last mechanic has sadly retired, which is why I am looking... and as I say, I am keeping her, even reboring if necessary, as long as I possible can, because of a disk fusion in my spine, she is easy to climb in and out of, and to handle, this is how long term I am talking!"
